Clearing tails, bulb questions

Clearing tails, bulb questions
I am going to clear out my tails, but before I do that, I would like to know bulbs I can put in. Would it be possible to put in LEDs? What are some brighter, better bulbs that I can put in? Will I have to buy a orange bulb? If you could give the part numbers too, that would be great. Thanks.

just get some 1157 amber bulbs, with white bulbs you might get pulled over and LED's arent bright enought in the day.

They are 1156 bulbs, not 1157s. Amber ones are more difficult to find, but Autozone carries them. I don't know about the LED bulbs, but if you like, go ahead and try them and tell us what you think.

Thanks for help, but if I were to put leds in, how would I put the them in? Would I have to buy some sort of harness for the leds? Would the voltage and watts be correct? I'm thinking you can't just take out the bulb and pop in a led; some sort of led fixture must be put in. I guess I'll search the web to find some of my answers. Thanks again.

well they actually sell L.E.D bulbs in 1156 form...i dont know the brightness and how well they actually work...they have about 10 LEDs in a circular shape...I know for a fact Autozone and Discount carry them...Saw them there today when i was picking up my blindspot mirrors( a must!!!)

lol yup get a bunch of led's and tape them together and plug it in.
i'll advice against hyper white blinkers. you will be able to find the 1156 amber in a number of auto stores. they would probably work better than a 1156 led cluster during the daytime, as it is already somewhat difficult to make out the blinker during a bright day because clearing out the tails also removes the reflector.
led would look very good at night however. you gotta love how the blink on and off without trailing off

In Canada the new traffic lights that are being put up use leds. You can see the individual leds when you get close. They are much brighter then the regular bulb traffic lights. Obvioulsy you can see them in the daytime. Do they use extremely bright leds or use special reflectors allowing you to see them in daylight? Also, the new Caddy has them, not the STS, or CTS, but the big 4dr one; don't know the model name. I have read on the net that there are actually 72leds in the each tail. I think it would be a really cool mod to do; if it works. Seeing most ppl have cleared out their tails themselves, it wouldn't be too hard.

18 LEDS
I've seen 1156/1157 fixtures with 18 LEDs on them. I've seen up to 30 LEDs on a single fixture, but these ususally cost around $35 Check here:
http://www.wixtools.com/html/ultraleds.html
they seem to use LEDs that go in multiple directions in order to attempt to solve the problem of LEDs being a directional light.

i got red LED's in my blinkers in the back.. they are kind of hard to see in the daytime but look tite at nite.. i also rewired the little corner light next to the blinker to come on with the blinker and put in red 194 LED's in them so it helps out in the daytime..
