Poor Acceleration / Hesitation

Hello,

I have a 99 Max - SE limited and am having an acceleration problem. The car feels like it doesn't want to follow through with the shift and almosts pulls/holds back as I am accelerating. Also, the car seems to lag and be hesitant when I give it gas. On the highway, I almost have to push the pedal to the floor to pass and switch lanes and to get that kick-feeling. Why doesn''t my maxima have pep anymore? The car used to have a lot of pep but instead, I get too much free-play and an unsmooth feeling in the pedal like a heavy vibration.

I've had my throttle body cleaned, the entire throttle cable replaced. The car is at 61,000 and haven't gotten a full tune-up. I just want to get the major things changed one at a time so its affordable.

Could my spark-plugs be misfiring? Does the throttle cable that is hooked up to the trans ever go bad? I was reading about the "ECU" What is this and how do I go about reprogramming it if it is bad?

Thanks and sorry about the long post! I need some major advice.

Thats your problem.

I just did a complete tune up on my 99 SE-L. Parts cost me 135 bucks from Nissan. The difference in performance is night and day.

My suggestion to you is to clean your throttle body and replace the plugs, gas filter, air filter and PCV valve. Then take it for a spin. You will immediately feel your power back!

I think Nissan over extended the tune up interval for the 4th gen. The car should have been tuned up at 40K. The loss of power that happens is gradual from about that point forward. My next major service will be at 100K which will be a 40K interval. I wount let the car go 60K on the same plugs and gas filter anymore.
