Slack in my Steering wheel

So, I'm on the road and get the car up to about 85ish on a nice straightaway on I95, and notice that my steering wheel seems to be tracking every damn imperfection of the road, wiggling to every groove on the pavement with about 1/2 an inch of slack when sitting dead center. Definately not a feeling of beeing planted on the pavement, (anything below 70mph and the steering felt more precise-with less slack)I really cant remember if the car has done this-. I bought the car about two months ago and this was the first time I got to really let her out. Is this the way the max is supposed to be? Can it be adjusted? The car tracks perfectly straight, the wheel just turns to jello at high speeds when going straight. 99SEL 38k. Any thoughts?

Things to check and get checked:

1)Cold Tire Pressure - post results

2)Alignment - post results - Could be just screwed up or too much camber one way or the other.

3)What type/size tire? - post results

4)Lowered? What springs/shocks?

Try Energy Suspension Polyurethane Endlinks for your front sway bar. Do a search for the part # and buy them from http://www.suspension.com/s.b.bushings.htm

This seemed to fix the problem of steering slack on my car, probably due to the badly worn rubber bushings I'd removed (65,000mi).

yeaaahhhh, or maybe you ought to get your power steering pump checked, and your steering rack. Apparently mine had some kind of gap that was causing loose steering. All fixed up now.

i just had a wheel alignment done on the car this passed week. maybe I ought to go back to the shop that did it. Something must be loose I guess. It never ends. There is always something to do with this car.

Tire pressure cold- 32/29 like Nissan reccomends.
The car is Completely stock, 5 spoke SE rims, with Continental CH95 tires.

What is it that they can mess up in the alignment that would couse the loose steering? So this way when I go back I can suggest shat to check for. Thanks

Continential tires, had them on the 330 and couldn't wait to get rid of them. We popped two because of NYC roads and soft sidewalls. They don't get good reviews on TireRack either.

RATINGS:
Would buy again - they score a 6
Overall satisfaction - they score a 7

Best tire in that catagory is like a 9.xxx

So your tire is an average Joe and could be the reason your Max doesn't track that well at high speeds.

A bad alignment can cause exactly what you're seeing. Too much positive camber can do strange things like darty steering / poor cornering etc... Too much negative will wear the **** out of your tires and follow every rut. They might have also not tightened something down... it happens...

Those tires also suck.
