Does anyone know what the air intake goes to that's located under the front bumper on the right side? I assumed it went to the airbox, but I want to make sure. I tried to trace it but it's too hard to see without taking my car apart. This air intake looks very similiar to the one on top of the radiator but is in the hole in the bottom of the bumper. Thanks for helping. Oh, this is on a 96 GLE.

When I got my CAI,

I removed that off of my 96 Maxima, just tore the whole thing out. Anyways, looks funny when it was on my car since I have a 97-99 front bumper on it.

Reduce noise and reduce air flow.

It also acts as a dirt/debris trap. When I removed mine when installing my CAI, it was full of dirt, bugs, debris, a few small pieces of foil, etc.

OK. So if I bypass this thing and just use an air duct that runs from the Y on the upper part of the intake to the bottom and side of the radiator I should gain power?

It doesn't go to the resonator...I took out my resonator and it only has one 2.5" hole in it, the one that goes to the airbox. I'm talkin about the air intake about a foot off the ground on the right side of the car next to the fog lights when you're lookin at the front of the car (if I had fog lights). I can't tell what this intake goes to!!!!!!!!

If you take off the driver's side front plastic underside plate, you will find this scoop to be riveted to it and it will also be evident that it has nothing to do with engine air intake whatsoever. It appears to direct air to the trans. to help cool it I assume. I had to rip mine off the plate when installing the trans cooler (auto) for clearance reasons.
