2000 Max Engine fitting issues

Can you fit a VQ30 from a 2000 in a 97-99 maxima? This questions prolly been asked before but without the search I have to ask again.
Thanks.

As I've been told, yes.
I'm thinking about it myself.

Anything can be done with enough time and money.

I don't know why you would want to do this. There are MUCH easier ways to get 222hp out of your existing VQ30DE.

I'm pretty interested in this myself. Specifically because I have a 99.5 and I'm told that the 2000+ ECU fits the harness for the 99.5 ECU, thus saving me lots of headaches.

I figure that if a VI package is going to cost me $650, why not just drop the DE-K in?

I would be interested if I could fit a VQ35DE in my 4th gen. I would only resort to this if my VQ someday gave out. (prolly not soon)could it be done?

Well, labor charges (or time if you do it yourself) make it alebit (read: a lot) more expensive than just adding a VI. If you happen to blow your current engine and needed to swap in a new one, then I would say go for it.

I'll just copy this again, maybe they'll get it this time around.

Intake + Y pipe on a 4th gen = about 222 HP

Total cost is under 250 bucks.

C'mon Tom. You, as a 99.5 owner should realize the potential of this. Yes I could add a intake and Y-pipe, which I have, but why not keep going? Withe the DE-K + an intake and Y-pipe you might be looking at 240 flywheel hp? Why would you just write this off?

Good point!

But I think I'd be looking at an SC over just dumping another engine in.
I guess I like to keep the car with the parts it came with and just add onto it to improve it's performance.

If I wanted to start with a 222HP engine, I'd trade my 4th gen in for a 5th gen and then start modding from there.

But then you would have to have to think about owning an ugly car.

Ultimately (with bolt ons) both engines end up having just about the same HP to the wheels anyways do they not? 2000-2001s (the one's that AREN'T BROKEN AND ONLY PUTTING DOWN LIKE 180FWHP WITH I/Y/E) are putting down just over 200fwhp... like 205ish max right? Full bolt on 95-99s are putting down 195ish... All that R&D and labor is alot of money to spend for 10 extra hp in the long run... I think anyone considering this is a little out of their mind (not in a bad way though, just seems like tons of work for little reward, but R&D like this is what it takes to innovate)... IF you are going to swap in a motor swap in a 3.5... it will probably take the same amount of work (I have a very difficult time believing that 2000-2001 ECUs and 99.5 ECUs are interchangable. The harness may be the same but I doubt the ECUs are).

Wow I used tons of parantheses and ellipsis in this post please forgive me I hate it when I do that but I'm not retyping that whole thing.

Good points Neal. But you have to figure that us 99 and 99.5 guys are pretty much screwed when it comes to in-depth NA modding. Yes, we can get the VI. But we can't get the ECU and bumped up rev-limiter that is available to the others.
