I'm trying to find people who have used this product before. I'd like some opinions of whether or not its a bad thing to do and any precautions i should take when using it as per the instructions here: http://miata.net/garage/tsb/s004_93.html and http://members.***.net/94miatam/carbon.html .

GM Top Engine Cleaner is awesome stuff. REALLY cleans out the areas that oil gets too. However, unless you have been abusive, it's not necessary, AND is rather harsh on the seals. If you maintain proper oil change intervals based on driving habits, both in terms of how hard the car is driven, as well as temperatures, short drives, stop and go, etc, with a good synthetic oil, you should never need this stuff. However, if you, or the previous owner has not, and there are varnishes and deposits, then this stuff is awesome at getting it out. And again, if you don't need it, don't use it for the heck of it. It's really harsh on seals.
