My friend has a 2000 Eclipse 5 speed, he put an intake on it, he brags every day that he can beat me. I have a 96 GXE 5 speed with a CAI on it, will I be able to beat him easily? I have a Y-pipe coming in the mail, should I install that before I race him?

The new Exclsipe has a V6 with a broad torque band (similar to the Maxima). It will be a close race. But assuming both drivers are equally skilled with identical reaction times, the Max should squeak by w/o the Y pipe but gain another 1/2 car withthe Y pipe... Just my guess based upon what I've read about the Eclipse...

no the 2000 eclispe is not be a 5 speed max. if you did not have any mods at all you would still beat him. i really don't think it will be that close, that is if you can drive good. he might gain on you if he can drive better. but with a y pipe you will beat him pretty easily. again it really all depends on who can drive better.

I had a run with a 2000 eclipse a couple of days ago. Just as I pulled into the center lane of a 3 lane freeway, he pulled in front of me. When traffic opened up, he cut to the left and then back to the center. I cut to the left also and stayed there and floored it. That was at about 75 in third gear. For about 3 seconds I paced him while he was about 1.5 car lengths ahead. Then I started to overtake him at the top of 4th gear around 4800 rpm. He sensed me passing him and slammed on his brakes. I think you will be able to take him. The eclipse was quicker than I thought, but no match for the 5 spd.

put the y pipe on it will give you a advantage, but i dont know what kind of driver you are so cant tell you who would win. Just race him and you will see.

I have a GT!!

My eclipse is 2000 GT 5 spd. It is quick but not as fast as my 5th gen Maxima. The eclipse will be fast from a stand still and probably will cause you a little problem. BUT!! The tires are the worst on this car. They have no grip. It is very easy to peel out and lose traction. My Maxima handles better. At any other speed, like highway speeds, you will kick his *** so bad!! My Eclipse doesn't have any takeoff power at higher speeds.
In fact, I don't even know why they call this car a sports car. It has no traction, doesn't go that fast, and weighs almost the same as a Maxima!!
Don't get me wrong, I still like my Eclipse but it isn't a Maxima. I let my girlfriend drive the Maxima while I race her in the Eclipse. She beats me all the time. She wants a Maxima over an eclipse because the Maxima has more *****.
But i have a 5th gen....Good luck!! I'm sure you will win this

Hey, thanks for a booster-upper, maybe I'll put some money on it. I consider myself a decent driver, I've driven stick for 5 years now, raced a bit.
