MEVI RPM switch questions

Can anyone please help me on the installation of the RPM switch. I have no clue where to hook up the wires to from the RPM switch. I know is one of the sparkplug wires but i have no idea which one. I try FAQ but it didn't help much..

Can anyone please post a diagram of exactly which wire goes to which and how to set the rpm switch?

any help would be great

THANKS!!!

The RPM wire, I hooked my wire to #5 coil wire. Look at your engine bay, the first coil pack on the right as your looking/facing the engine bay., the wire is red/grey peel it and there you go. There will be three wires, I believe one is black the other red and then youll see one the grey wire with a red stripe.

So the Tach input wires is going to hook up to the 5th coil red/grey wire?

one more question for the relay, how do i hook that up? And do i even need it?

http://www.vanillaice.com/webmasters/hype/mrc/mevi.htm
on the bottom of this site, there is 2 different diagram, one with relay another one doesn't. Whcih one do i go with?
Btw i also bought the relay too.

Also which Manifold Vaccum did you hook up to on the car? i hook up to the Vaccum next to the fuel regulator, bad idea?

thansk!

The place you hooked the vacuum to is fine. If you have a RELAY look at the diagram that has a relay in it. Unless you don't want to use the relay then use the diagram without the relay. And no you don't need the relay. Some like to use it and some don't. It's your choice. Yes the tach input wire will connect to that red/grey wire. Just strip the red/grey wire back and connect to it.

Grab the RPM switch and look at the switches, lift the #5 up and all down.

Press 2-3secs the button on the left and wait until it blinks back at you your done thats part 1.

part 2
then look at the paper and it will tell what switches go up and down and then press the right button once again and wait til it blinks back at you your done.

I did that exactly as you said and it was set correctly - 6 cylinders (of course) and 5000RPM.

But my question is, how do I test to make sure that the MEVI IS working properly or working at all? I'm assuming that nothing special happens until 5000RPM. But at 5000RPM the VI turns on? How do I test to see that it does turn on?

the paper that was in the box has the switch positions, set it at a low RPM like 1500RPMs press the right button and wait until it blinks back at you turn on the car and rev it a little bit and watch it drop down. After that then go to a higher RPM and and rev it up to 5k or wherever you decide to open it at.

If I set it at 1500RPM and get back in my car and rev it past 1500RPM, what should happen? Should I do this all in neutral?

no pull on the throttle cable and watch it pop open, it will stay open. You can do it in neutral

Oh should I take the valve cover off then? Would all 6 valves open?

no no just set the RPM switch to open at 1500RPMs dont pull the valve cover off. Just start up the car and pull on the throttle cable.

here is what the paper looked like

I have that PDF already. It doesn't say how to test to see that the VI flips open.

Now let's start over... I set it at 1500RPM... pull on the throttle cable... then what exactly should I be looking for while under the hood?

the vacuum is going to pull on this part. You can pull on that manually but the vacuum will pull it for you.

I did not notice any tone... I already have a loud exhaust due to the broken baffles in my stock muffler and I also have the JWT pop charger... so that would no doubt drown the VI.

I have another thread going:
http://forums.maxima.org/showthread....hreadid=220795

MEVI does not open or is always open!!! Pls. Help??? quote:

I installed the MEVI yesterday and today I programmed the RPM switch to 6cyl (button 1) and 5000RPM (button 2). I even set it at 1500RPM to test it and this is what I found:

The MAP/BARO switch that I have is from GM. It has 3 prongs:
- One prong (silver coloured) goes to the vacuum canister with a vacuum hose.
- Another prong (black colour) goes to the VIAS actuator with a vacuum hose.
- The third prong (black colour) is labelled "vent" in the directions.

Now, what happens is as follows:
- When the vacuum hose from the vacuum canister goes into one of the two black prongs on the MAP BARO switch and the engine is turned on and revved, the valves on the MEVI stay closed no matter what.
- When the vacuum hose from the vacuum canister goes into the other black prong on the MAP BARO switch, and the engine is turned on, the valves open and stay open at idle and even when revved.

What is going on here??? What am I missing? Which prong from the MAP BARO switch goes where? Do I have the wrong two prongs hooked up to the wrong devices?

Please help.

Thank you.
