average on highway(gas mileage)
hi guys, im just asking my self...if my car its ok, im getting like 23 -24 mpg on hway, but im talkig im used to go at 80-90 mph some times on the trip 100. I dont know when peoples on dealer, car spec. 27 mpg at highway, they are testing the car in some specific speed.

I usually get about 27, 28 mpg when I'm doing a steady 80 or so on the interstate. However, if I get on the pedal for passing much or I have to take it out of cruise, it goes down around 24-25 mpg. I only use Chevron premium in my car and don't put anything else in there.

I got 24 at 84mph two days ago (all highway); wish I got more, but think its pretty good

That's what i get with BP/Amoco 92Octane
510 pure highway no stops and it makes a big difference if you do highway and city.
i get 260 all city and around 325 city and highway but that number usually changes.

510 isnt completly impossible, but you must drive like my grandma. all highway ive gotten 29.2 as my record. with ypipe intake and 89 octane, driving a sustained 70mph(it was raining). ive been using 93octane and a new fuel filter, so i hope to break 30mph next time it rains and i have to drive slower.

He was probably going downhill in neutral half the time
510 mi per tank is REALLY good. I usually get 410mi. every fill up. I think it's pretty good for my normal commute that involves stop/go traffic... 90% highway miles.

I average 29-30 mpg at 75mph with cruise & A/C on. Just checked it on a 2500 mile trip.
Around 24mpg mixed driving.
Obviously, going full throttle will decrease your mileage significantly. I can see the gauge drop after a high speed, full throttle run.

I just got back off of a 2300 mile trip and the first leg was from Austin,TX to New Orleans,LA. That's a 515 mile trip and I filled up on the was out of Austin and made it to New Orleans on one tank, the odometer read 512 when I filled it back up with 17.3 gallons. I know I could have gotten a few more miles because the gas light had barely came on. Thing is I was driving at night with no AC and I never went above 80. 79 to be exact because the po po's were all over the place. Before I did a major tune up though I had to stop in Baton Rough at about 450 miles for gas. I guess it pays to keep it tuned up. My only mods are Mobile One synthetic oil and a drop in K&N air filter.

I usually get 500 miles total highway and around 350-375 with mostly city and a little highway. Even with all city driving and "driving enthusiastically", I've never got less than 325 miles on a tank.

I have a 18.5 G tank and i fill it up to the max and top off very slightly and that's what i get but you see guy's, It's not just me, it's a usualy thing.
I have also noticed that manual cars seem to get worse MPG than me(an auto.

I did a mileage check last week. I drove a 200+ mile trip of all freeway driving and got 32 MPG. Filled up just before I left and just as I got back. I'm just running a K&N drop in, NGK's and use 92 octane gas.

My guess would be on, because the engine keeps accelerating, any ideas?

Re: average on highway(gas mileage)
Since the lift of the 55 mph restriction, I think it's safe to say that highway MPG tests are done at 65mph.
27 might be right if you're running steady at 90mph. Just as a test, I cruised evenly at 70mph for a good solid hour and got 32.5mpg. But I typically average 26mpg (city/highway combined). A lot of it can do with your driving style.

Okay, so what is your style? Even at constant 70, 32.5 seems a bit liberal to me. You do indeed do the fill-up/drive/refill thing and divide the gallons refilled by the miles travelled during the "solid hour," right? Anyway, if 32.5 is really what you get, I will never understand that. I got my car tuned up (allbeit rather needlessly) and I still don't get more than 21 with my "city/highway combined." Techs always compliment me on the care I give the car, so I know there is nothing wrong. What exact percentage of each (highway and city) would you say you drive?

I would say that you to get on the 30's at a steady 80 mph, you would need to do it on an interstate and use the cruise as much as possible. Since my college town (Tuscaloosa) is connected with my former hometown (Mobile) by mostly 2 lane roads (there are some 4 lane hwy's in there, but the bulk of the distance is two-lane), my mileage figures come from that drive. On a trip to Atlanta from Mobile, all interstate, I got about a steady 31 mpg keeping the cruise on as much as possible and not having the A/C compressor blowing the whole time.

Daniel B. Martin had some excellent knowledge on the subject--wish he were still around to consult.

I clocked it exactly (filled up before and filled up after, did the math). I was driving using cruise control during the day and in dry weather, so no lights and wipers. Temperature outside was about 60 degrees (weather can make a difference). I have no engine mods. As for hwy/city combined, probably 60/40, although I do a lot of short trips too. I have heard that the 95's get the best gas mileage of the 4th gen.
