how do u know if strut is out?

how do u know if strut is out?
my back left wheel has coilovers and was lower than i set it. i was wondering if my shock was out? i have kyb agx's. could it be the shock or something else??

If there is a fluid leak on the outside of the strut or if you have a very bouncy ride.
