Would warped rotors cause bad shaking under hard braking?

Well thats what I think the problem is. Could be something else. My mom had her brake pads replaced about a year ago and ever since she's had bad shaking while braking. Now she's given me the car and I'm trying to get it into good running condition (ie, replace brakes, struts, cracked front bumper, and stereo). So if it is the rotors, how do I replace them or can I just have the trued by a shop or something? And if they can't be fixed, whats a better than OEM replacement that will fit with the stock wheels.

If the car has a few, more than 50K, miles on it - replace the rotors. Don't go cheap on brakes. If they fail-you are in BIG trubbles.

They might be able to be turned on a brake lathe and trued, but then again they might not.

she has had the rotors replaced in the past, but neither of us can remember how many miles ago that was. (Car has 125k miles)

Well does anyone know a place that explain how I can remove/replace the rotors and a good replacement set? thanks again

Brembo rotors are the current rotor of chouce. Some prefer cross-drilled or slotted (or even dimple-drilled), but that can reduce life and lead to premature warping. Though those processes CAN, to some extent, slow brake fade and assist in heat transfer, if taken to the extreme of use the decreased mass and rigidity can lead to more severe warpage. Plus, it speeds up pad useage.

Just something to think about.

BTW- my rotors were warped 2 months ago from excessive braking and it resulted in loud braking from speed and a vibration and shaking. Replacing the rotors stopped the problem.

Yes, If your steering wheel shakes while braking the most likely problem is that your rotors are warped. And yes Brembo rotors are a great replacement rotor, I recently changed my rotors to Brembo and I have been problem free for 2500 miles and counting.

oh great, how do i get to be a part of that.

Also, should I replace the front and rear rotors, or just the fronts?

I just replaced my fronts due to time constraints, but I will replace the rears when I get the time.

FYI- I just used some OEM rotors due to low funds...

A bad tire can also cause this problem.

usually that is speed-related (whether accellerating, decellerating, or maintaining a certain speed), not only in braking situations.

Lots of good instructions here: http://www.motorvate.ca/mvp.php/300 Note: these pics/instructions are just for accessing the front brakes/rotors. The rears are a little different. Post to ask if you need details for rears as well.

also, of all the diff kind of rotors

xdrilled, slotted, dimpled and combos of these, which ones last the longest and allow the pads to last the longest as well?
