need recommendations on new tires
#1
hello all:
i need two new tires for my 99 se 5-spd. i have just reached 25k, and my front rs-a tires are down to the wear bars. with all the rain and bad weather we have been getting in d/fw, i need to replace these soon.
i have been looking at three choices -- bridgestone potenza re730, dunlop sp sport 8000, or the pirelli p7000 supersport. i am also going with 225/50-16 instead of the factory spec. 215/55-16. for some reason, the 225 is a lot cheaper than the 215.
please give me suggestions, if you have any of these tires, or know details of which ones are better than the others. i drive 100 miles/day and would like to have performance, as well as wet performance, cornering, and preferably a quiet tire.
thanks all...

Hmm. Is your car properly aligned? Lots more wear on the inside or outside of the tire? You should be rotating your tire alot more often to get even wear of the tires. those RSAs are not a very good tire. I would even suggest buying some used decent tires until you need all 4 replaced. Then buying 4 new good tires.

Hello I have the same car and I ordered the 730's last week. I don't have them on the car yet do to the weather, but they got good reviews from the research I did and they have great treadware ratings. And to boot they are pretty cheap.

jeff92se,
i believe the car is properly aligned, there is no uneven wear on any tire. of course, i drove on the front two for 20k, and then rotated them and drove on them in the back for the last 5k. so i didnt do a very good job rotating them. for the first 20k, i kinda drove the car hard, the entrance to work was a reverse "s" entry, with a long sweeper on the last arc, so a lot of my friends (co-workers) and i would take that road with "enthusiasm"
buch434,
i have heard good things about the 730s, on the tirerack.com website. who did you order from, and who will put them on for you? i am thinking i would go to discount tire and have them order the tire from tire rack and let them install them for me. can you tell me how much they cost you? i have dealt with discount tire and ntb before, and they are usually willing to price match with the tire rack advertisement in car and driver magazine...
