Better Gas Mileage Needed!!!

Ok, I replaced both front oxygen sensors due to codes and I cleaned the throttle body with the tooth brush, cloth, and intake cleaner. On a full tank of gas, I still average about 200 miles. Doilng the math, this equates to roughly 11mpg. I read here people averaging between 18-22 mpg. How can I get better gas mileage on my car? I use AMOCO 93 octane only and drive 90% city.

I recently tuned up everything about two months ago. I also added the injector cleaner once at the gas station and monitored my mpg after and recorded pretty much the same data. I am yet to clean the IACV because the car idles around 675 rpm (automatic)and I have no problem with starts, hesitation, etc.

I am leaning towards a service AMOCO offers to clean the injectors for about $100 dollars. I posted because I wanted to find out what else I can do to bring up my mpg to a respectable value because i am spending money like crazy on gas.

any codes?
any drivability issues?

when my Mass Air Flow Sensor was wonky, I was getting between
12-16 MPG...since the fix, I'm back up between 20-29 MPG...and
the 20 is 70% city.

Here are a few questions I'd ask someone who was experiencing sh!tty gas mileage...

Where do you keep your left foot when driving?

Do you have 18" wheels on your car?

Have you checked your tire pressures lately?

I dont have any codes now since I changed the oxygen sensors. I have 17" rims and my left foot is usually on the dead pedal. Please contribute edifying solutions please.

Thanx

Larger and/or wider tires and wheels (especially heavy chrome wheels) can have the same effect as having 300 to 400 pounds of extra weight in your trunk. (BTW, you're not carrying 12 bags of cement back there, are you? )

Low tire pressure (no, you can't tell just by looking - and the gauges at the gas station are notoriously inaccurate) can reduce gas mileage by up to 20%, but I'd also get your transmission checked - maybe something's slipping.

Given that you seem to have taken all the expected steps with the engine, I can't think of what else might be causing a 30% increase in fuel consumption...

codes or not...check your MAFS sensor!

I RARELY received a code, but, there were sometimes noticeable
drivability issues (and sometimes NO driving issues), and there
was ALWAYS poor mileage.

with your car running, give the wiring loom near the passengar side
firewall a good shake and see if your RPMs are affected.

good luck!

you didn't mention anything about your fuel filter, have you changed that lately?

Patel,

I recently tuned everything up including the fuel filter about two months ago. I'll tell you what though, when I changed the fuel filter, I noticed a chocolate to rust color liquid coming out of the old filter. I was wondering if something might be wrong inside my tank or I picked up some bad fuel. The latter was discounted because I only use 93 at AMOCO.

I'll try to hit the highway this weekend out of state and notice how much mpg I'll get.

Thanx

I know that in city driving gas milage ususally sucks because of the stop and go traffic. Are you stricly only doing city driving? Are you doing any highway driving at all?
