Which is louder- aftermarked Y-pipe or a hybrid intake?

(EDIT: I realize that I spelled "aftermarkeT" incorrectly. Sorry- just wanted to clear that up!)

Which mod is louder? Adding a y-pipe (budget, most likely) or a hybrid intake such as a frankencar or a PR CAI minus the lower tube?

I really want to know which is QUIETER, because I want minimal sound increase, but since it is all relative it does not matter which way i ask it.

Patrick,

The y-pipe is more quiet. And gives a better gain.

Good news. I HATED the sound (tone and level) of my hybrid- that is why I uninstalled it after just a few days. I want some power increase, btu I like how quiet and refined my maxima is in its stock form. Sounds like a y-pipe might be a good start.

Y-pipe with stock cat-back is almost unnoticeable. you have to be right next to the muffler to hear any change in noise.

I have had my Y-pipe with stock cat-back for 6 months and it has gotten a little louder but still almost no change from stock.

With the stock muffler you will not hear the y-pipe over your intake. The only difference you may hear is when you start the car you'll faintly (if any) be able to notice the y-pipe.

intake will be louder than y-pipe...

but with a catback system, ur whole exhaust system will be louder at low-mid rpm range, but from mid-high rpm range the intake will take over...

just put em both on...I love my Budget/Frankencar combo. Both only get louder if you get on the gas. If you had to pick one...like everyone is saying, a y-pipe is undetectible almost under any driving condition. You get a little burble, but is very quiet. I even bet that burble would easily be soaked up by a resonated muffler tip..if your that worried about it.

I have the same set-up -- BudgetY/Frankencar/Stock muffler -- and it
is QUIET when driving normally (except, you can hear the intake at
idle sucking in air with the windows down).

When you give'r, then you can hear it...

When I had JUST the Y-pipe, you could barely notice anything!

Sorry, but I'm gonna have to go with the Y pipe being louder. But then again, I have a custom exhaust with no resonator, so that would probably explain it.

When I'm driving, I can still hear the growl of my PR though

so, I don't get it...you said the Y is louder, but, it's the
EXHAUST that's loud, not the Y-pipe...like in Science, you
need to have controls on the experiments!!!

so, if you have EVERYTHING STOCK except the Y-pipe or the Intake,
the Y-PIPE IS QUIETER!!!

i know that when i installed my WSP Y i barely noticed a change in noise (w/stock cat-back). when i had just intake on my last max, it made more noise than this y pipe alone does. but the noise from the intake is all good with me cant wait for this damn frankencar to get here

People say that the y-pipe kicks in after 3500rpm or so. I have to disagree. My pipe kicks in just below 2900rpm or so. And it is a HUGE difference...

Since I got the intake before the y-pipe, I didn't notice any change when I added the y
