Little more bang for my buck

I recently picked up a 96 Maxima (automatic ) but none the less i am looking to add a little more to it. But money is a big issue as i dont have any lol

I am seeing if you guys have any good "cheap" things i can do to improve look and or performace. this is what i am looking at so far

1) cold air intake (i have seen them for about $70 is that a good price? is there better types then others or is the piping all the same?

2) to reporgram so that it hold the gears longer. This one i dont have to much info on but from what i gather i can purchase a programmer myself and do it myself or just go to a place and have it done. if this is true what do you guys reccomend? and how much sould i pay

thats all... any other things you guys know about please tell me

Thank you for all you help

In my opinion, the best power mods for the money are the Intake and Y-pipe. You can get both of those for less than $500...I don't know if that's out of your range or not...but you will DEFINATELY feel your bang for the buck. I had a 99 auto before this and it pulled alot more with Intake and Y-pipe.
Check out http://www.budgetexhaust.com/ for the Y-pipe.

intake = $65 shipped on ebay
F (Y) pipe from budgetexhaust = $181 shipped.

These will add 20 HP. Cheap and effective. too sad the handling will suck with all that horsies.

Put too much strain on the exhaust? I don't even want to know what that's supposed to mean. The 2 best bang for your buck mods are the y-pipe and hybrid intake like everyone says. You can get both of these for $250-300.
