About $1000, in my pocket. stock 1999 maxima GXE w/ intake (+2 HP) and clear corners (+5 HP). Wondering what I need (within that price range) to get for best possible combo of performance/handling. If I don't currently have $$ to get a set of 18"s, does it make sense to get new struts/shocks and springs?

 

If you want to go fast, buy a NX wet kit with all of the trimmings

If you want better handling and some increase in HP, get some KYB adjustables ($350), springs ($150), Y pipe ($175) and have some money left over to play.

It really depends on what your goal is. You could throw the NX kit in with everything you need and have a nice sleeper.

ya 1000 to a max is good times I would go with the sprint/agx combo and ypipe and just save the other money for boost unless you want some cheater juice :-) jk

 

i would definitely get a y-pipe then some AGX's and Sprints. If you find a deal as good as i did you should have about $350 left to play with.

 

I wouldn't get nitrous without first doing the suspension.. that much extra power with the 4x4 ride height and floaty struts is an accident waiting to happen. Get a Y-pipe and do the suspension, you should still have some money left over if you do the installs yourself.

 

So you guys suggest the suspension work even though I'm currently on 15s and I intend to go to 18s in about 2 months?

I would not buy the MEVI as one of your first mods.

Definitely buy a budget Y.

 

if you put wheels on before you lower your car it will look awful with the wheel gap. its best to lower the car before you get the wheels. IMO.
