Shaved Emblems
I realize that there have been several threads dealing with shaving the emblems from the rear deck of the Max, but hear me out!
I just shaved my 95' Max, and it looks great. The common procedure listed in several of the other posts is to use Goo-Gone to remove the adhesive residue once the emblems are removed. I wanted to post simply to suggest an alternative to Goo-Gone: Brake Parts Cleaner! No joke. Actually, any cleaner comprised of Xylene, Hexane or Acetone will work. It dissolves the adhesive instantaneously, and will not harm the finish of your paint. I PROMISE! (I'm an organic chemist by trade, and I guarantee that these organic solvents will not harm a urithane or acrillic automotive finish.) A bottle of brake cleaner costs $2 at Pep Boys. I only post because I tried it with Goo-Gone first, and 30 minutes into the process, I had made very little progress. With the brake cleaner, I was done in 10 minutes.
Please also note that the Brake Parts Cleaner will dissolve road tar like nothing you've ever seen. Forget "bug & tar remover," put some brake cleaner on a paper towel, and tar literally wipes right off.
As for the original subject, I highly recommend the shave-job. Props to all who posted earlier- my Max looks great without all the extra plastic!
Enjoy!
