black smoke at start up
#5
if oil is leaking, the smoke will be blue
how black is the smoke? like diesel black?
i would think it has to be an oil issue. have you tested your compression? valve stem seals will not affect compression, just rings and valve seats.

it seems like more of a carbon issue, like after u clean ur throttle body when u rev u will have a good amount of black smoke for a while...its not thick black, its literally just a lil puff cloud sometimes on intitial startup....maybe there is carbon settling in my exhaust and shooting out at initial startup....

Rule of thumb:
Blue : Oil
Black: Gas
White: Coolant
Maybe you car runs 'rich' for a second when you start it.
Maybe it's like you said, carbon dust comming out of the exhaust.
Drive her at about 5k rpm, (to purge exhuast) then shut off, and restart a minute later, check exhuast... also restart it about an hour later (after high rpm run) and watch exhaust.
Does it always do it at start-up? and is it to the same degree?
