sticky clutch

my mom as a 5sp 96 maxima, about 117k on it. anyway the clutch travel is pretty sticky from the floor to about 3/4 of the way out, sticky enough where its difficult to drive and predict when it will catch ( sometimes it sticks then just pops out a quarter inch at a time)...im not sure if it is the release fork (that goes into the tranny) or the hydraulic part of the system that is sticking..any suggestions will be greatly appreciated

it is not the original clutch..replaced a while ago ( at least 10k)..and i dont think the stickiness was as bad before it was replaced

thanks in advance

I have the same problem, just not as serious apparently. I have 76K on the original however. I asked a mechanic at work (ford dealership) and he hypothesized it was a dry bearing of some sort. Mine isnt bad enough that I havent worried about remedies yet, but he said it wasn't a big deal and isn't harmful to anything...but if its so bad its hard to drive you may want the hydraulic system checked somehow.
