Do NOT race an F150 Harley Davidson

some time during the week i found myself on rt 24 towards newark on my way home at 12:30 in the morning and i see this huge truck with HIDS, altezza's and a heavy sounding exhaust fly by me on my left maybe going 70 and the roads were clear, only thing i was worried about was PO-PO. I speed up to catch up to him and rev up so he see's i want to race. I drop it to 3rd and i'm sitting at 4.5-5k rpm waiting for him to bust a move

All of a sudden i hear this strong sound from his car like heavy revving but real deep and strong like he had no muffler or something. Kind of scared me. Once i hear this i take off and after getting half a car on him he comes flying past me. We stay side to side between the end of my 3rd and beginning of my 4th gear. As i stay in 4th maybe at about 5k he's just passing me with no remorse, i mean walking me easily and i'm trying so hard but i cant touch him and by the time i throw it in 5th he's atleast 10 cars ahead of me

and to think, i thought all trucks were slow

It's almost the same engine setup as the Lightning but with less boost from the supercharger. Those cars are very quick even with the heavy 20 inch rims.

Only the newest ones are SCd, 2002 and up. The previous ones are not supercharged.

They are good for low 14s at like 96mph, more typical his high 14s at like 93 though.

They are way over-priced for what you get too. I drive them at work from time-to-time, fun to drive around, but I would never even think about owning one.

Granted my track seems to be slower than most, I've seen modded (smaller pullied) HD F-150s pull 14.7-14.8s@93mph at my track where as the stock and lightly modded Lightnings are pulling mid to lower 14s@96mph on average. The only thing the Lightnings have on me is their intial 100' acceleration. In the topend, I can catch most of the them. I friends with a handful of Lightning owners at my track and it takes them some pretty substainal mods to break 100mph in the 1/4. I gain anywhere from 22-23mph in the last 1/8 whereas they're lucky to get 20mph. Topend owns most Lightnings. With that said, I'd take a Lightning in a second if I could justify the fuel costs.

Mecca's problem is that his car is heavy and lacks the ability to breath up top. If he ever gets the MEVI/JWT ECU combo, he won't find himself behind the HD F-150.

My cousin has one, very nice. Those things come with boost and run a low 14, stay away from the Harley edition.

Hmmmm...my wife's daily beater is a '99 Maxima SE, so I know how fast a Gen 4 is. I also have an '01 Lightning that ran a 13.5 at 105mph bone stock when it only had 500 miles on it. It's dynoed at 425 rwhp and 525 ft.-lbs. so I'm pretty confident I can break 100mph in the 1/4 (best run thus far is a 12.9 with no traction at almost 108). And mine's not even that fast - 11 seconds is now considered a quick L with several dipping into the 10's. It would take a pretty stout Maxima to be able to pull on a Lightning in the top end.

their not that fast, put $800 to $1200 into a Dodge and you'll whoop em. Its fun too.

Just means the max need alittle more umph. I mean look at the price differences, I'm sure we could dump 15k into speed mods and we'll then everyone would have maximas, as if they dont already, but its cool.

Ford is just a Ford. I know I own one, and mines supposed to be special, arg.

I learned my lesson, one pulled me a full truck length (i was at his rear) on a 3rd gear drop and into 4th. Very impressive trucks. That is my next automobile...

BTW, that was just when i had Intake a Y...

i've yet to find one that can give me a run.. (although i know they must exist if there are 10second or even lowww 11second ones)

lightnings are good trucks and one of the only 2 trucks i would own (dodge ram 2500 cummins turbo diesel, yum). but top end aerodynamics or something owns them, bc they do have a harder time at high speed.. and traction when not on slicks owns the more mod'd ones

*crosses fingers and hopes i didnt jinx myself for the car wars, import vs domestic shootout tomorrow*

mecca, you need more mods!

What do you run Guest, that they cant even give you a run? Must be in the solid 13s because HD F-150s are not slow, mid 14s all day long...

this thread isnt really about my times.. buttt since i tried posting 1/8th time+trap in the timeslips a month? ago and followed with a PM to stevetec a week or two later, still has not been posted up though and no reply.

I compete tomorrow in the 1/4 on stock tires and 15"ers, hoping for the best and then some.

I have only made two passes this season since my new setup, 9.3@90mph followed by 8.4@91mph (75degrees+80%humidity) in the 1/8th mile on "dayton" 50$ 215/15's.. neither of those were near my best, but for first two runs, i couldnt do much else. I barely sprayed the top of 2nd, so I know it has plenty more. Also I did not, and still do not have a RPM switch for my nitrous setup, so I always let off the juice early to prevent revlimiting the car while spraying.

Leaving the track I walked past a 95.5mph 1/8th car , in a 3rd gear run. So I know it's got it in it.

Tomorrow I will be running 25shot more, and I am installing a MEVI tonight. That should help noticeably considering I already almost wind 4th gear out in the 1/4. Bottom line: I need new rubber to get any valuable times, I wont be breaking below the 12's without them, its all trap speeds until then.

hope i did not bore you. and sorry for threadjackin ya mecca.

oh, and don't ask what i am running just yet. 4th gen 5speed maxima SE, FULLY LOADED AND FULL INTERIOR everytime!

Also, it is going to the dyno this week! The car has no fuel computer or anything of that nature, so nothing really to tune, but I am saving/debating on SAFC. Stock motor, stock internals, etc presently.

A good friend of mine as a 2003 Ford F-150 SC HD edition which he lets me drive once in a while and all I can is it has some serious power, expecially top end. He has added a lightweight UDP, lowered the rear about 2 inches and put some serious tires on it (I think they are Toyos). This thing flies and takes corners better than my Max. But, he paid at least $36K, then added the tires, custom scoop hood, back cover, etc. So his total cost at the moment lies around $40K.

i've raced a new f150 harley davidson editon from a stop light.. and i had a little on him.. maybe a few feet. Either way it was close. Those things are slow from the line... but im sure he would have had me had if there been room. I only took it up to 65-70, he had to brake.. parked car in his lane. Yeah it was stupid.. but got to represent!

I think Mecca would have done much better against it from a roll if it weren't for the heavy-*** 2k rims and sound system. Plus he has a '97.

I seen a HD run 14.2 in the 1/4 against a lightning. They are not slow. Not all HD's are supercharged. The older models 01 and below are not SCed. I would not mind owning one but like dave said, will be a VIP at chevron gas station because they are V8's.

oops my bad on that, i guess spedo is off or i go to far or just dont remember right, you are right im not nearing 130 yet haha, best 1/4 trap is 116mph and best 1/8th of 92mph. I went for better today, but couldn't get mevi to work, so I ended up leaving early with no quality runs. did spank an evo8 that laughed at me on the line though haha

I can guarentee you a 5 speed 4th gen with I/E/MEVI/JWT ECU is substainally quicker than your wife's stock 99 Maxima automatic (high 15s on a good day).

You Lightning went 13.5@105mph bonestock? That's about the best I've ever heard out of a bonestock Lightning, even the more powerful 2001+. I can see pulling a 13.5 on a set of short slicks, but the 105mph trap speed is a little hard for me to believe. Also, 425rwhp is bonestock? I know the Lightning is underrated, but most Lightnings are putting down 330rwhp stock. How does yours have 425rwhp when it's only rated at ~380hp?

The 12.9@108mph is pretty stout. We have one guy pulling mid 12s in his Lightning, but he was pushing a nice shot of nitrous too. He recently turned his driveshaft into a pretzel on a slick launch. Needless to say his truck is out of commission for a little while because the driveshaft tore up some of the bed, frame, etc.
