acceleration from a standstill

i'm looking to improve my acceleration from a standstill, I'm not that concerned w/top speed, just better acceleration. What mods should I put in? I was thinking putting in a y and b pipe, would that help, is there anything else i can do?

SC'er, TC'er, and Nitrous will help you get out of the hole faster.

Actually, none of these will help you get out of the hole faster.

The SC/TC don't really help all that much at low RPM's, and I don't think I've ever heard of anyone turning on the juice for a launch.

As for accelerating from a standstill, I've only got a CAI/Y pipe and I put down enough power to spin the tires badly at will while in 1st gear and, depending on the road conditions, sometimes 2nd gear too.

I don't mean that I can get them to spin by dropping the clutch (anyone can do that), but if I were cruising in 1st gear, nailing the gas would cause a tremendous amount of tire-spin and wheel hop.

A new intake and Y pipe definitely help a lot. I'd probably recommend them as the best mods to start off with.

I know most people don't think of this as a go-fast mod, but I'm thinking about beefing up my suspension/tires. It seems that's the only way I can put the power I have to the ground effectively.

I can't imagine what it'd be like driving a Max with forced induction and a stock suspension setup. I would suspect that the wheel-spin would be intolerable.

a nice set of tires...i love the bridgestone s03's and im using sumitomos which are ok imo. a lot of people i know run bfgoodrich kd's and swear by it as it being the best street tire for dry traction.

u guys seem to not understand what he's asking for (some of u). he's looking to get out the hole faster. Turbo's and stuff dont kick in till higher rpm's and y-pipe also kicks in at 3.5+ rpm

a cold air intake is the best thing u can get to be faster off the line. Also less weight, a carbon fiber hood, lighter rims with better tires for more grip and anything u can do to take weight off your car.

*hopes he got this right*

Well, not to nit-pick, but the Y pipe doesn't really 'kick in' It may not help you as much in the lower range, but it certainly helps. I remember the time between getting my CAI and Y pipe. Definitely noticable in the low-end even.

As for getting out of the hole quickly, I'd have to say there are 2 things (I forgot to mention them before) that you could get to help that tremendously: An aftermarket clutch, and practice.

off the wall question.how long does the ecu take to "learn" how to use the y pipe if you didnt reset it by unpluggin the batt.

bout the stand still. cai helps in low range hp. weight reduction grippy tires and alot of practice with your tranny. the udp will help your engine rev up faster so i think that will help. y pipe will help even though it doesnt really have much gains under 3.5k b/c u get there in like 2 seconds after punching in first gear.
