Midpipe Flexible??

Midpipe Flexible??
I noticed that the piece of rubber tubing at the trottle body in the stock intake is a flexible piece. Are the aftermarket midpipes flexible and does it really have to be flexible?
From the the pictures that I've seen, there are 2 rubber joiners for the midpipe....do these allow flexiblity??
The thing is..buying an aftermarket pipe is not an option for me since importing from the US would be too expensive and my country just sucks in this department...and quite a few other departments .
I'm gonna be making my own mid pipe so I was wondering if it would be a good idea to include a flex area like in the exhaust or is that unnescessary.
Thanks for the feedback.
