Maxima Questions

Hey everyone!
I have a few questions out there for all of you 4th gen maxima owners out there. Currently I own a 1991 Honda Accord, but am looking to sell it off and purchase a 1997-1999 Nissan Maxima. I have test drove several Maxima's, but I have never had the joy of trying one that has any mods on it. So far I have found that the Maxima has a lot of power to start with, but I was wondering what type of power can you expect with $5-6k worth of modifications (performance mods only). With my accord I was able to boost the hp a little over 320hp with several mods. So here are my questions.

1) What kind of horsepower can I expect to obtain from a decently modded 1997-1999 Maxima?

2) What mods should I focus on and what mods should I stay as far away as possible from (again performance mods are what I am looking for)?

3) Where are the best sources for finding mod info out there on the internet for Maximas?

4) Where can I find a good collection of modded out Maxima pictures for good ideas.

Thanks in advance!

Look in the Maxima mod/HP gain/cost-benefit database for prospective Maxima owners

What is that link again MXMTG? Takes me to a search page that doesn't seem to work. Is it just me or something?

5-6k worth of performance mods only?

try forced induction with almost every bolt-on availible, with most likely enough money to port and polish the engine and add new cams.

Turbo/Sc - $3500 - 3000 (respectively)
Complete Exhaust (Y-pipe to muffler) - $350 - 500
Port and Polish - $800 - $1200
Cams - $1000 - $1200

Then again, you can also get used springs/shocks for cheap.....Although not completely necessary for drag racing. You could have one fast max for that money.

Well, after looking around on the boards and such I have decided what I need to get. I have found me a nice 97 max with only 48k miles. I have decided a turbo is a must naturally, but this brings one more question about; what is the best turbo kit for a 1997 Maxima? I have found several air intakes that look very promising, and have looked at so many exhaust systems that my head now spins just thinking about it. And a port and polish is deffinately in order as one of the first mods. Haven't looked to much into cams and such however. What brands do you all suggest for exhaust systems, air intakes, and cams? Thanks for all the suggestions, you are all very helpful. Sorry R5a7B, but if I spend the money on your car as a tester I will be too broke to fix up my new ride. And what fun would that be now???

the kit that nigel made is probably the most popular, the maxima your talking about... is it an auto or manual, if you plan on keeping your car auto, then S/C might be a better option since you dont have to spool up turbines

If you're looking for mods, we've pretty much got all of them listed with lowest prices here:

More than one person can attest to the fact that SC's have a habit of destroying auto trannies. If you're auto, get a . turbo The kit in the ink is probally the best as far as quality, rep, and value.

Jim Wolf Technologies is the only comapny i know of that mass-produces cams for the maxima. You mightg actually get better results by talking to a performance shop getting custom ones.

There's a lot of different options for the exhaust check out that other link for info.

Ditto for the intakes. Tip: don't ask what the best intake for the max is, becasue you'll get 8 trillion answers, all of which makes sense, and the post will deteriorate into a petty name-calling war.

Well, the max project is now in full swing. I have been looking around the net and have the following toys on the way to me. Let me know what you all think. After I get everything installed and set up hopefully I can borrow my pop's digital camera and get some pics posted.

Here are the mods going on in the next several weeks:
Place Racing CAI
Cattman Y-Pipe
Random Tech Cat
Cattman Catback System
Stillen V2 Supercharger
JWT Nitro Package
JWT Stage 2 Clutch
Stillen Flywheel
B&M Short Shifter
Quaife LSD
Brembo Big Brakes

Not all performance mods, but all are related to performance in some way or another. Only one more question for this post. What intercoller should I purchase? Thanks for the info everyone!
