Need Drive Shaft Help!!

Well, in my seemingly neverending quest to replace my transmission, I am finally close to completion. However, I am on what appears to be my final hangup, the driver's side drive shaft will not go into the tranny. Is there some trick to installing this? The FSM and Chilton's book don't really give any clue other than it slides in (which it is not doing), I am hoping that someone here can give me a few tips.

TIA,

Clayton

Won't go in at all? Or it starts to then it won't go all the way?

If you had a LSD tranny and are installing a non LSD tranny, the drivers side axel woun't fit.

It goes in a little bit of the way, but when the circlip that in on the spline hits (I'm guessing that's what's holding it up) it doesn't move anymore. I had trouble getting it out. FSM said to pry it out, I had tap it out w/ a hammer and screwdriver. I looked at the splines and it doesn't appear to be keyed in any sort of fashion that requires it to be inserted in a particular orientation...

I encountered the same problem when i was replacing my driveaxles. What you should do is trying to pop it in. It has a locking pin on it so it wont just go in easy. Tou need to apply quick force to it and it should pop right in.

It is a non-locking diff. I was considering getting one, however I'd have to change the drive shafts to do so. Don't have the money, didn't want to spend on a new tranny, but the ****ers at clutch mart didn't tighten the screws on the pressure plate enough, one came of and blew a hole in the tranny (all others were loose enough to break the torque without holding the flywheel in place).

I've been trying to hammer it in using a big wood splitter (iron piece with striking end) and hammer, then a bigger hammer. This was hammering the solid piece inbetween the splines and cv boot. I've also tried hammering from the hub end (with a punch) with no luck. Maybe I'll try from the hub end (which I have in the hub, but with out nut) with a block of wood, but it I don't think that would be that wise (putting a lot of force on the cv joint's that way).

Ran into the same problem last week. A block of wood and a hammer did the trick. From what I have heard, the locking pin can cause problems if it is too loose. You may try and replace it if all else fails.

Thanks for your suggestions. It took a big block of wood and an even bigger hammer (a sledgehammer, actually) to get it in. Once the clip was in, it slid into it's locking position.
