squeeking breaks!
take them back
tell him the pads are defective and you want him to put axxis pads on and you'll pay the difference in price of the parts, not the labor though. Axxis don't squeak and are very good. Contact got rice for info.

YOU can
You can but the blue anti-squeak compound on but it's just as hard as changing the pads, you have to take them off. Your better off getting the Axxis one's now, don't get true Nissan ones. The Axxis grip much better

Hehe... that's what everyone here has on their car...
LSWHO?? The ultimate mod is an Auburn tag.. Now to my serious question.. where is the best place to get Axxis pads? My dad just got new rear pads so they will last a while but the fronts are pretty old. Is it OK to put Axxis pads on the front with Nissan's on the back?
I am no break expert but..here goes...
from what I have learned installing my pads...
1. make sure you have the shims installed on all the pads.
2. put the non squeaking compound..it comes in many color
on the shims...
3. place the pads back into the caliper (ok I might be mentioning the wrong part name here)
4. close the rotor
5. break in your brake!....do gentle stops...from 30...5 MPH decrement...
I use porterfield pads...dust like heck...stops good

My 97 maxima use to squeek all the time too. I had about 80-90k on the car and recently got new rear brakes. I brought to like 5 places (including a nissan dealer or two)to stop the noise....they tried everything...all the places said everything was fine. They all put countless kinds of brake anti-squeek stuff on the brake pads and they even bevveled the edges of the brake pads. Nothing worked.
I was about to just about to accept that nothing could be done, when a friend told me to try this one last shop. I told the mechanic the story, he looks at it for 2 seconds, and said "you need new rotors". So i got new rear rotors and no more squeeking. The mechanic said that when you keep replaceing the brakes and don't replace the rotors, the rotors become smooth and shiny. The pads can't grip as well so they squeek.
Replace the rotors where you got the new pads.

same problem here
I had the same problem here about a year ago. My dad took my car to a mchanic to have its annual NYS inspection. In any case, the guy told my dad that he needed new front and back pads--what a freaking liar!! Point was he put in some generic type brake pads and it squeak, squealed like a pig for the first 3-4K. After that, I have noticed it being less, but it still squeaks. The next set of pads I have put in will be the axxis or the stock nissan oem pads.
but these pads squeal for a while...so you can either live with them for sometime (like me) and put some anti-squeal or just get rid of those pads and replace them with the Axxis-- or Nissan.
I never let me dad take it to a mechanic now --heheh

My maxima has 60xxx miles and the brakes still seem good, but whenever im going really slow(going in or out of a parking spot) my brakes squeek nice and loud for everyone to know that its me. Any ideas? thanks.

Brake pad wear indicators
The disc brake pads on your vehicle have audible wear indicators. When a brake pad requires replacement, it will make a high pitched scraping or screeching sound when the vehicle is in motion whether or not the brake pedal is depressed. Have the brakes checked as soon as possible if the wear indicator sound is heard.
Front pads typically wear out sooner than rear pads, so check the fronts first. If the rotors are not conspicuously worn and you have not felt any pulsation in the brake pedal, you may need nothing more than new pads. Replacing worn brake pads is something which may be done by the home mechanic. You will find good coverage of this subject in the Haynes manual, pages 9-5 through 9-9. Doing the front pads is easier than the rears because the rear calipers have the complication of the hand brake mechanism.
