How do I get a sub battery cable through my firewall?
How do I get a sub battery cable through my firewall?
How do I get battery wires from my trunk through my car into my engine bay and onto my battery. I'm installing a sub-woofer for the first time and a Diy site with photos would be a life saver.
I appreciated the time.
Thanks,
Danny

hehe I had trouble the first time i did that. The firewall is on the right side of your engine bay.. run it down til u find it.. go through the tire well (requires taking of the plastic screw looking things and plastic **** between the tirewell) and run it through your door. I spent a few hours hiding mine is the hoses. Just play arround. It will all come to you. Be patient young grasshopper!
Drill a hole through the firewall. People always say that there are holes and I'm sure there are but I was to lazy to look for it. Follow your accelerator cable from the TB. Drill a good sized hole right next to the spot where the cable goes through the wall. The gauge of ur power line determines the size of ur hole. The put in a rubber grommet or elect tape. Make sure u drill all the way through. There are many layers. Sheet metal/insulation/sheet metal/rubber. Then stick ur line through and it should come out right next to the gas pedal. Then u can run it any way u want. Under carpet/Center console. There is a hole on the drivers side of the back seat into the trunk. Email me if u still need help.
There is a "cutout area" in the rubber on the interior side of your car. Its to the left side of the vechicle, about a foot left of the pedals. Its is diamond shape. Cute that part of the rubber out and drill your hole. There is nothing through the firewall in that region. Then just run your cable into the car, under the carpet to the backseat, remove the backseat and your in the trunk. So money it hurts.
PS, veryify there is nothing through the firewall where the "cutout" area is. your Max may be different.

theres a hole right above the fuel filter too, it's already got a rubber grommet covering it, just use that.

Do this if you are running a 4 gauge wire or smaller. If you plan on running a bigger gauge wire then run it under the car and drill a hole through the trunk.

Here's how i did mine, an it turned out very well. I ran about 12" of power cable form the battery and mounted my fuse right below my intake(this part might be different if you have stock airbox). Then from there I routed the cable around the inside of the (driver side)fender to the top inside corner of the fender. there will be a hole about an inch and a half in diameter leading into the fender. All your cable will go through here. As someone mentioned before, you will have to take off some of the wheel well black plastic above the tire. Then I took off the necessary interior plastic pieces (near kickplate, and front & rear doorsills and pillar with seatbelt)then pulled up the carpet. You will see where the hood release cable goes through the firewall. There will be a rubber grommet somewhere around an inch in diameter. You can see it only from the interior with carpet pulled and from the outside of the vehicle only when the wheel well plastic is pulled back. I just bypassed the grommet and put the power cable on the side of the hood release cable and in the grommet. I just went through the hole, but using the grommet for the power cable. But, be careful, because the firewall has kind of an edge to it and after a few years can wear a hole in the power cable's insulation. Make sure it is protected (even a little electrical tape wrapped on the cable will help). Then, just pull the remainder of the power cable into the interior and route it in the corner of the floor. Take off the back seat and the driver side trunk liner and whole trunk floor. You will find a way to get it into the trunk compartment (I forget exactly how I did it but it was easy)I mounted my amp on the back side of the rear driver side seat, so I just used a box cutter knife to cut out a small rectangle in the plastic trunk liner. From the rectangle cutout, the cables fo straight out to the amp and it is a very clean install. put the carpet and panels back in, and you're set for thumping!
Using this one!
I am not going for perfection just a loud system hehe~! This sounds easiest because i noticed that little cut out myself and there is nothing behind it. TOmmorow i am getting out the dremel and going to town! Thanks for the help guys. You are bringing me closer and closer to being able to show photos without embarrasment.

i ran my wire right through the clutch plate, its the diamond shaped thing right next to your accelerator under a small peice of carpet that you can remove. there is nothign omn the other side of it and you can find that same shape if you look down in the back drivers side of the engine
