Hey All,

Can you please help me understand the exhaust layout for a 1997 Maxima SE. I got a small leak, and trying to pin-point what part is the culprint.

Let me take a stab at it, and please let me know if I am wrong.

Off the header is the "front converter".This is the piece with the honeycomb flex pipe in it.

Next comes the rear converter, I think???

Then the mystery, what is the longer cylinder shaped object after the rear converter? Is this a front muffler or resonator?

From there the plumbing goes to the rear and to the rear muffler hanging under the trunk.

Guess in a nutshell my question is, aside from the front converter and rear muffler, what are the two units in between.

On the diagram the area of confusion is the unit where the 95-96 rear sensor plugs into. Is this the rear converter or resonator? And the second thing is the following unit that is cut off in the picture, it looks like a cylinder. Is this a front muffler or is this the cat.

I think I may have figured it out.

Y-Pipe is the front converter piece
Next is the converter
Then the B-Pipe
Then the muffler

So the only question is, what is the chamber on the B-pipe for? Is it a muffler or resonator?
