accelerator cable adjustment help

ok i tried to tighten the accelerator cable and i dont know how much to tighten it. haynes manual says until throttle lever starts moving, but i cant tell when that is cause it moves ever so slightly with the turn of my wrench. (cant tell even if i hold it while i turn)

the only think i can think of is to keep adjusting till i get idle at about 550-650 rpms when engine is warm (normal?)

thats a pain tho and not much of an exact science

any tips?

thanks

ps. no threads about this in search

Are you adjusting it for your idle? I adjusted mine recently because the gas pedal had to much "play" in it, I just tightned it until there was no more slack.

If you are having idle problems just adjusting the tension of the throttle cable is a new one to me as a way to fix them.

no i wasnt having idle problems, but the other day i did a throttle body cleaning and remove the cables to get the TB off.

when i put them back on they were loose and the car was jerky for a sec every time a hit the accelerator, so i went to tight the cables, but i dont know how far to tighten them without going too far so that the the throttle lever has too much tension and keep the butterfly plate? open which is increasing rpms at idle due to air flow?

just go to the point that the cable looks taught and has a small amount of play, but only a little...this way you know the butterfly plate is shut, and you get good responsiveness.
