Smokes when cold starting

I just bought a 95 Maxima SE with 120,000 miles. It runs great and they did a compression and it was good all the way accross. The only thing I have noticed about the car is that it ticks a little, which I am told is normal and is the fuel injectors. Also in the morning when I start it, it blows white smoke out of the exhaust for about 3-5 seconds. Then it goes away and I never see it again. It doesn't happen when I am at a light or anytime. Only in the morning when I start it. I tried smelling it and it did smell a little sweet, but that could of just been the gas fumes. I checked the coolant and it looks fine. I also checked the oil and it is perfect. I drove the car 200 miles yesterday and it ran great. I am just paranoid and wonder what could be causing this. Could it be valve seals? Any info would be greatly appreciated. Thanks.

Re: Smokes when cold starting

I got the same prob w/ my 95 maxima auto, whenever I start my car up, I get this black/white smoke that pops out of my exuast for a couple of seconds. No clue what that meant, any suggestions out there ? On top of that, I was at a redlight, and all of the sudden the car stalls on me, wtf ??? And on that sameday later on that night...I went for a road trip heading towards the beach, and now the check engine light comes on, the car is running fine, but the light is still on, help ???

Well today was wierd. It did it in the morning in my garage. Then when I left work it didn't do it after the car had been sitting all day. Then I left my house a couple hours later and it blew a little more. The car wasn't sitting for that long. I am confused now. Any ideas?

Mine just did the exact same thing Sunday. The car sat for about 1 week without running and it was in the 30s and 40s at night. But the car was in the garage. It started ROUGH and there was whiteish smoke out the back. I checked the oil, coolant, etc. and all seemed fine. Anyone have an idea?

guys in no expert but doesnt that mean you need a valvlejob?
see when the engine is stopped the oil is leaking into the engine through the bad valve seal then when u start it its all burning off. Like i said im no expert but i hope this points you guys in the right direction.

A slight puff of smoke from a rich air fuel mixture for a cold start is pretty normal.
