Timing off!

Hey all who read this,
I have been posting a few threads asking why my car would not start.
It still won't, but I have done all I could, so i took it to my local foreign car shop. I hate having to take it to a shop, but i don't have any other choice. I am tired of dealing with it, and i don't have a diagnostic machine. Anyway, i talked to the mechanic, who has dealt with maximas before, and he said my timing was off.

To bring everyone up to speed, I rebuilt my tranny and made a new intake. I put everything back as it was before, but now it won't start.

Does anyone have a clue why my timing would be off?
I did not touch anything having to do with the timing.
The crank position sensor is also being replaced, though I don't think it is bad, better safe than sorry.

Thanks for the input.

well if you took everything off your car i would double check to make sure that you didnt forget to connect anything. one simple sensor not hooked up and your car wont run. im sure you already checked your battery. i just recently had a problem where my crank postion sensor wire was cut in the harness and my car wouldnt start but im sure you dont have that. just some suggestions

Well it's not like your distributor can be a tooth off...

What's ur symptoms? It's kinda hard for your timing to be off because it's all controlled by computer off the two CPSs. Did you remove the timing ring on the flywheel? Could you have forgotten to replace it?

Clean the CPS at the bellhousing - metal flakes on the magnet with screw it up.

somehow my timing got off track, even though i did not take the engine apart.
The crank pos sensor was replaced, and i talked to the tech working on it today...
He said that he wasn't getting any codes off of the diagnostic machine, yet it still was not working. They were scoping all the cylinders and it still would not start. We were trying to brainstorm and he mentioned that the battery i put in, an optima red top, might be too powerful for it right now, and it doesn't know what to do with the power and is retarding the engine. Sounds like an idea, but probably not. Somehow, the timing chain must have slipped a tooth and is off... Could it be from needing to be replaced? My car is at 110,000 miles and i think... think the chain was replaced at 60,000 like it is supposed to. I plan on making them do it just to be safe.

To add salt to the wound, when i was trying to start it, it backfired and might have messed up my MAF...Friggin A!!!!

Also, my car will not shift. Could it be from the internals of the tranny not being moved by the engine yet? I think they just need to be synched, they worked when it was apart.

the chain is nvr supposed to be replaced, some places its very expensive others its cheap
the only way it could skip a tooth is if the chain became streched
