Getting bad gas mileage- Any suggestions?

I was reading the thread on the 400+ miles per tank that others are gettign. I know that I am way below that, and I do not drive like a crazy person, so I am looking for some possible suggestions regarding upping my MPG. My car is a 96 GLE w/ about 81,000 miles riding on 225/50/16 tires.

Here is what I have done in the last 6 months:

Tranny drain and fill (2x),
Switch to synthetic oil,
Replaced plugs w/ NGK Platinum,
changed fuel filter,
K&N Drop-in air filter (clean and properly oiled),
I also do STP/Techron fuel system cleaner fairly often.

My driving is a commute of 25 miles each way, and the traffic varies from stop and go to highway speeds. A lot of it is done on secondary roads where I run 45 MPH (12-15 miles each way), 1-2 miles is city, and the other is on a toll road where I can be going 80 or 5 MPH, depending on traffic.

My next step is to clean my throttlebody. Is there anything else that I can do to up my gas mileage?

Part of why I bought the Max was to get better mileage than what I had w/ my Jeep (15-16 MPG), and the improvement to 20-22 MPG is not that remarkable, considering that my wife gets 30+ in her car. On top of that, other guys on here get WAY better mileage, and I am wondering what I can do to up my efficiency. I understand that a lot of MPG has to do with HOW a person drives, but I am not running around @ WOT very often, if at all. My mileage just seems to be in the dumps. HELP!

If your getting 20 - 22 combined highway and city driving your not that bad. Try cleaning the MAF sensor with TB cleaner. Just spray down the wire, don't touch it. Clean your TB as well and change your fuel filter if you haven't done that already. Try a different brand of gas too. Do you have a big system in the trunk? Weight causes a reduction in MPG.

Edited oriinal post to include changed fuel filter. I forgot that i had done that.

So do I use the same carb cleaner that I use to clean the TB for the MAF sensor? DO I spray it with the MAF off of the car?

Also, would changing the PCV valve help things? I have a new PCV valve, but I cannot figure out where it is. I neet to buy a Haynes...

Where is the IACV?

Yes, use the same TB cleaner to spray the MAF with. Off the car, just squirt some cleaner on the wire and screen to rinse off any grime that may have collected on it. Don't touch it, let it air dry.

The PCV is located on the rear valve cover by the TB. It's tucked in a hole and is a little hard to spot unless you know what your looking for. I saw a post where somebody attached a pic that had it's location circled in red not to long ago. Search on PCV and see if you can find it.

There a few metal tubes on top of the intake runners, one of them leads to a small rubber hose thats attached to the PCV. To make it easier to get the PCV out, loosen the one or two nuts that holds that piping to the intake runners. Moving that back slightly will give you more room to pull the valve up. The rubber hose is really small, like maybe 1-1/2 inches long and it's got a good bend to it.

I only get around 17 MPG so I'm not too happy either. Check your tire pressure. Raise it a little to get more MPG. I just got new tires about 2 weeks ago and the shop put mines at 35 PSI and the factory recommended setting is only 29.
