POPPING sound from the intake! Driving me crazy!

Hey all...ever since I put on my AEM cone air intake into my 5-spd 99 SE-L I've been hearing this strange popping noise coming from it. I really don't like that...it sounds like something is going bad. I'm sure it has to do with the intake 'cause it didn't happen before. Happens most between 3 and up RPM, but only when I go WOT. Also, my car slows down during these quick popping sounds. Any suggestions? PLEASE HELP!

Misfire or backfire?

Could be caused by coil packs or a defective crank position sensor.

Ignition timing problems are usually the cause of back firing. Both crank position sensors are responsible for your ignition timing.

Could it be that the engine is knocking / pinging? Did the SES light come on?

Actually, it's been happening for some 3 months now and no check engine light ever came on. The popping continues...I checked the coil packs a while back and they appear to be OK. What about these crank position sensors...can you tell me more about them? Where are they? Why would they cause the popping?

I did but my car wouldnt slow down during the popping. It turned out to be the vacumm hose kept on coming off my intake. weird.

if I have a hole somewhere in the vacumm (I mean the entire intake set) can that be causing the popping? I do have a custom made adapter that holds the intake in place (you know...where the screws go to the part with the MAF sensor on top) and this adapter has many drilled holes cause apparently the adapter was universal and when I bought it the guy had to drill holes so that they will fit into the max. But then again...2 or 3 little tiny holes wouldn't cause such popping now would they??????????????????????

Check to see if the vacumm hose is connected properly.
