alternator

i have a 95 max tonight i get in the car and start it up and the battery and brake warning lamps are on . i can't figure it out so i put a meter on the battery and it isn't too bad but i put the tester on the battery post thats on the alternator and it is putting out 8 volts. i now have no lights or too much juice left. has anyone ever changed there alternator before? how do i do it the easiest way on my own?

Yeah I changed mine. Bought it for about $120 at Advance Auto. I followed the directions in my Chilton service manual. Be ready to spend several hours above and beneath the car.
BTW, I called a shop for a quote and they said $450. Well worth the effort to do it yourself.
