crank position sensor code
crank position sensor code
the check engine light recently came on in my 96' SE, the car still runs perfect no noticable problems. so i grabbed the codes and i got a Crank position sensor code, and a knock sensor code. i reset the computer and the light is now off. I presume the knock sensor code could of been triggered from bad gas if i got some detonation, but why would i get a crank position sensor code????

There are two crank sensors. One is POS (position) that looks at the flywheel and the other is REF (referance) and it looks at a timing ring on the lower pully. Find out which one you got the code for. You can try to remove them and clean them up. They are magnetic sensors and tend to collect fine metalic dust that can sometimes interfear with the signal.
Clear your error from the ECU and see if comes back again. The KS is probably a ghost code, don't replace that until you get the crank sensor cleared up.
