Knock Sensor reading

I took out my knock sensor and measured it with a ohmmeter. Connected both leads to each terminal and I got .555 reading. Connected one lead to the 2nd terminal and the other to ground and got no reading at all. Is my ks bad? I never got any codes for this but there is performance loss. Any suggestions?

Thanks...

edit: you are supposed to test the resistance with an ohm meter.

using the ohm meter if there is no reading there is an open circuit(no continuity between the terminals) you're KS is bad.

Thanks for correcting me. I didn't get any reading, but shouldn't have I gotten a code for it if it's bad? I manually checked for codes and nothing, it's been several months now...

The KS wiil not cause a SES light and I think if it is not completely bad it will not throw a code. Somebody correct me if I'm wrong.

Is this true? Should I replace it then?

The 0304 code while not make the CEL come on but it will be in there if you check the codes (if your knock sensor is bad).

If you don't have code 0304, your knock sensor is ok. To check it you can use an ohm meter. One lead to ground, the other lead to one of the pins on the KS cable. One pin should gives about 550K ohm, the other pin should give infinite reading (no continuity). To have an idea of how bad the car performance is with a bad sensor, you can simply unplug the KS and take a test drive. The ECU should give 0304 code, and the car would be pretty sluggish. Don't forget to clear ECU code after you reattach the KS.

Thanks, I'll try that. How do I do the KS bypass?
