question about what to expect in a 1997 maxima with 120000
wassup ya'll just want to know what to look out for in a 1997 maxima that i'm about to purchase with 120,000. going to be getting it for $6000. Is that a good deal? Going to be doing a thorough check up of the ride too so i need to know what could go wrong with a car that has that much miles on it. Any suggestion would be greatly appreciated. Thanks.

Maximas were built to last, i have a 1997 max with 121k on it. There is nothing wrong with it so far. Thank God.
Check paint for any body damage and ECU for error codes. Maximas are usually good cars that are very dependable.
I wish i found my max for 6gs. You're very lucky. Good luck with the car.

Auto or stick?
As the others said: do compression check, check ECU for codes, visually inspect the car...maybe find out if it had the defective alternator (and if it's been replaced)...

97 gxe auto here.. 89600 miles ... and I bought my car 3 years ago with 62k miles for $6000, but it had a salvage title.
If this one's a salvage then try to drop him some more to at least 5500... if it's clean title then you have a pretty good deal

My 98 stick has not needed anything other than routine maint., I drive pretty hard, so things tend to go a little quicker...but other than that the car is great....oh yeah when I bought mine a year ago it had 90K on it and I got it for 4grand...one of my friends is a dealer

'95 gle w/ 74k miles. no problems up until this past week. car wouldn't start (possibly bad starter, almost positive the battery is fine) got towed to the dealership and its sittin there now. =(

I have a 97 SE with 197k I've changed the oil sensor for leakage twice (don't buy the dealer 1, go to Napa or AutoZone), had new axles installed... check the heat & air unit.. and also check the water pump... I have a friend that has the same car and when something goes wrong with theirs it's not to long before it happens to me.
Other than those things I say go for it... Good deal...

Oh, 1 problem. Ever since I bought it, it's been consuming oil. Maybe it's the way I drive: agressive! My motor mounts are going mush and I think I wanna change some suspension bushings to poly if possible.
SE with climate control...that's pretty rare (at least here in SoCal). Sounds like u found a great deal!

ngrmaxima, what trim is it? SE i hope...also auto or stick? but a 97 max with that mileage is worth no more than $4000 in my opinion...you will need to do alot of maintenance if u get it..

'98 SE w/67k miles. Bought 2 years ago w/43k (what can I say, I own a bike that I enjoy riding too!) only problem is w/Evap canister. Reset ECU and so far so good.
QQ: what is a salvage title? I'm assuming repo-ed?

I have a 95 GXE with 217k miles, and it has been problem free for the most part. I replaced a ball joint with my cousin a bit back, but other than that, just the standard oil/brake/ect. operation. My point being, a Maxima can take the miles!

ygstsoul,
salvage title means your car has been totaled before...I bought mine like that but everything had been fixed so when I bought my Max the title was clear...but the salvage title means it has been piled up at least once.
