problem with car consuming gas
problem with car consuming gas
just bought my new maxima two days ago and the car seems to be consuming alot of gas when you step on the gas pedal. What can be the possible cause of that. any suggestions would be appreciated.

here are the solutions:
1) leave the car on your driveway 24/7
2) return the car to the dealership
im afraid there is no way to fix this problem...sorry bro
Fill up the tank and go for a drive and see what MPG you get.
It could be a bad knock sensor, fuel filter, O2 sensors, dirty throttle body and/or IACV, or your tire pressures are way off (mines are at 32 all around).
Do a full tune up. Change the plugs to NGK, new air filter, new fuel filter, and new PCV valve. While you're at it, do an oil change
I get 17-18 MPG mostly city and I just got about 22-23 MPG mostly highway (when I went to a Wisconsin meet).

in addition to what jatan said with o2, ks, fuel filt., iacv, i would also try cleaning the maf sensor element with a little bit of denatured alcohol and a q tip, then give the ecu a few hundred miles to adjust. The maf probable doesn't really affect anything as much as the others, but it doesn't hurt to clean it every now and then.
