Remote Start on Manual Trans

Remote Start on Manual Trans
Just bought a Viper 790XV for my 98 max...i really want the remote start for the cold winters...I know your all going to jump on my back and say im a moron cause i could kill someone if i remote started while the car was in gear...however i got to thinking if you could run a pin switch that would kill the remote start command unless the car is in neutral...im not sure if anyone has ever tried this on their max...but im open to opinions

Just an idea. I'd be interested to see if anyone has come up with a good solution for this yet ...

maximas come stock with a neutral sensor switch
on the 3rd gen, it goes to the ECU and I think it does for a 4th gen too
I know Sprintmax has posted which wire it is and where it is before
you can wire it up pretty easily to most remote starters (doesn't have to be one that is specifically made for manual tranny) with a relay or two

You should check out Compustar, www.compustar.org They pretty much own the market on manual transmission remote starters. With the procedure you have to go through to get your car to autostart it's virtually impossible for you to start it in gear. Here's a quick run down.
To get your car into "reservations mode" where the car will accept autostart commands:
Put car into neutral.
Pull e-brake.
Turn keys to off position and take out of ignition, car will STILL BE RUNNING.
Shut the doors.
Car will run for another few seconds.
Car sends a little song to your key fob.
There are sensors installed and without following those steps your car wont remote start. There's a few companies out there that offer autostart for manuals now but I'd still recommend compustar. They started up here in Alaska but have moved to Seattle, and literally everyone I know that has a manual with autostart has one. They're dependable up here during our 8 months of winter, and I think that says a lot
-don't know about it working with that viper alarm though, you might have to remove it or carry around 2 remotes on youre keychain.

The following companies make remote starters for manual tranny
Mannix
CompuStar
Lynx (my fav)
UltraStarter
They all work the same as snowpanda says. However with Compustar, you pay $$$ at $350+install.
However, if you don't wanna mess with everything, consider adding a Peripheral Electronics NSS to your Viper. Check it out here: http://peripheralelectronics.com/per...%20-%20NSS.pdf

As Craig B said above, there is a neutral position sensor hooked up to your transmission that will tell you whether or not you're in neutral. This page talks about it. You should be able to wire that up with a relay and prevent it from starting in gear.
