Ran into a problem today...

My car's shifter has been acting up for the last few days. When i go to take it outta park it doesn't want to let go. So i halfway depress the button for a few seconds and it eventually slides back like it's supposed too. Anyway, tonight i was going out for a little spin, and it wouldn't move outta park for anything. I pulled the trim piece out and saw that the shift lock selenoid wasn't moving to disengage the lock. First, does anyone have that part number? Second, if its going bad, how hard would it be to replace?

This is a little off the topic above, but my AC is acting up too. it only works at full blast (4). Anyideas on what is making it do that? Its not a big deal, but with it at full blast the AC can't cool the air fast enough for it to stay cool, and its been pretty hot around here. Any help would be great!

Don't know off the top of my head about your shifter.
As for the blower motor only working on 4, that sounds like the blower motor resistor (common problem). You can do a search to find more info. Not hard to change, and very cheap. I think it is in the Haynes manual, too.

I am trying to remember from my shifter conversion time, but if I remember correct - the "shift lock solonoid" you refer to is a cable that retracts when both the key is in the ignition and the brake pedal is depressed. it's this cable we are talking about (it attaches to the base of the shifter on from the front right side), this cable is adjustable. There is a white plastic ring that attaches to the pin (rod) that on the cable and that ring has two clamps on either side that you can press and then slide the pin in and out to the desired amount until it shifts right.

in my car it looks as though there is a selenoid that pushes the locking mechanism open or closes it. its a rod, not a cable. thanks anyway, anybody else?

i dont think its a solenoid used there, isnt it just a cable attaching to ur shift **** and button? why would they bother using a solenoid for something like this?

i dunno, but there is a selenoid that is actuated when the brakes are depressed that makes you able to take it outta park. i hate stupid safety features that turn into hassles.

Yes, it is an electrical solenoid. As SXN suggests, I'd just release it manually and make it stay that way - if the "safety feature" isn't a concern of yours. If you want to fix it, I'd first find the wires that go to it and make sure that it either gets power, or loses power when the brakes and etc are in the proper posistions. If the voltage changes/works then suspect the solenoid, if the power doesn't change then you gotta inspect the circuit. Good luck.

yea, just like Toolrocks said, test it to see if the solenoid is getting voltage. if it is, and still isnt working, bad solenoid. if the solenoid isnt getting juice, than bad wiring... once u figure out the problem then worry about ordering a new one

It is still getting power, but it just isnt moving. I like the safety feature and everything, but the part costs like 30 bucks (throught the dealer obviously) and they wanna charge 60 for installation...I think i'm gonna lock it open. I have yet to try to put my car into gear without having the brakes depressed.
