OK,
I have a chance to buy a 1998 SE that had and engine fire.
Most of the front end is ok.. except the hood and wires etc... none of this is any big deal to me because I have all these parts on my parts car. The thing is my parts car is a early 1995 and I want to know if the engine from that car will work. And what i need to do to make it work short of trading every electrical item out..
Thanks..
Chaz

Do you know why this car burned?

My guess is that the long block (engine block, cylinder heads, and all their internal components) suffered little harm. However, I wouldn't trust the external parts such as throttle body, sensors, wiring, fuel rail assembly.

Your parts car is an early '95. I've read that some early '95s were OBD-1 compliant, while all later Maximas were OBD-2 compliant. This may mean incompatibility of Engine Control Modules, sensors, and wiring harnesses.

There is significant risk in combining parts from two similar cars. I'd shy away from this unless the burned '98 comes at an extremely low price.

Thanks...
I did not understand why the engine was a problem.. but I heard it was.. $1500 seems like extreme low price right.

In my state (and maybe many others), it is illegal to put an older engine into a newer car.

Dude then you would not have any junk yards...
OK well what happens if you blow your engine??? none the less that only counts if you put a differnet one (install altima into maxima) and that only counts if you don't say.

The burned 1998SE costs $1500?

For that price, buy a brand new engine from the dealer!
or just sell the 95 and get a salvaged 98+ (or 97+ if you don't care about old engine/new car, you know it's the same "era") and have $$ left over.

Heck, since the engine had to go and the bay is empty, fab a custom mount and plop in a 5th gen engine j/k

What's the lowdown on the 95? it's running fine?
