Hi Im new, got question on Noise

Hey i own a 4th gen maxima. it has extremely low milage, about 30k and it has been driven fairly softly. in the past month or so its been making a creaking groaning noise from the rear of the car as i go over bumps. i checked the exhaust and it seems to be fairly well attached. the shocks also look good. the car doesnt sag, it just makes weird creaking noises. the noise seems to come from the back rear. any suggestions?

If it happens when ur going over bumps or turning sharp, im guessing its ur springs... could be shocks, but they would be quieter

I experience the same noise. I got this after I installed my springs and shocks. I also have isolators around the top and bottom of my springs. I can't figure out what's causing it. If you find out please post!

hmm. well it doesnt sag at all, it feels as firm as usual. just makes annoying noises. tends to come from the right side.

Well,

I think i figured out why mine made that noise. Check the jack in your trunk and make sure its secure and in place. Mine wasn't so it was causing the squeaking noise when I drove.

I was trying to answer this yesterday... but the database crashed right about the time I was typing the message.

Anyway, there is a "known" problem with the parking brake cable in the rear. If you ask a dealership about it, they should be able to tell you the part number of what you need to fix it.

Basically, the cable is messed up and it doesn't release properly (when you go over the bumps it shakes it loose... and the groaning noise you are hearing is the pads letting up on the rotor.

I have had this problem for a while... new brake pads will alleviate it for a while... jacking the back of the car up for any kind of maintenance will probably alleviate it for an even smaller amount of time... and new struts and springs (I theorize that this is because of the change in ride height?) has alleviated it for about six months now.

BUT, it is coming back slowly but surely and it will probably get worse as it gets colder.

The good news is, it is pretty benign... but if we are talking about the same thing, the noise it makes is horrendous.

Here is a link where they mention in briefly:

Here is the Nissan Tech article on it:

If it squeeked going over a bump...its not his rotor. Also, brake pades have the metal tab on the side that squeels when they wear down like that... that would make noise during braking, not going over bumps and would be more of a squeel than a creak

I have the exact same noise on my 95 GXE with 116K miles. Sounds like it's coming from the rear passenger side. Please post if you figure out the cause.

Did you try tightening your jack in the trunk? Sometimes the jack comes loose b/c of all the bumps and somehow it makes a squeeking noise once its loose. Sounds kind of odd, but its true. Just give it a try see if thats the problem.

The jack is secure. Took it to the mechanic. My noise is coming from the back passenger side shock/shock mount (upper).
