My car has a 6 digit vin number. It has a yellow sticker on the drivers side door opening that says Affixed by state of new york as a replacement plate after inspction of this vehicle. Anyone know anything about this kind of stuff?

look under hte hood in the middle of hte firewall, the vin should be etched in there. look at the dash in the bottom corner on the dirvers side, there should ur vin there. should be vin stickers all over hte cars, like when u open hte doors. there should be a vin sticker on the front bumper where the signal lights are(take them out and u will see)

Yup, means salvage. I believe sometimes when a car gets stolen, they steal the VIN plate, too. So, the 6 digit one is like a replacement VIN since the State nor Nissan can issue a new VIN. That's what a dealer told me once when I was looking at a used Acura Legend. At least, he was upfront about it.
