Undesireable noise from Drive Belt Pulley?
Hey everyone. My 98 Max is making noise from what appears to be one fo the pulleys for my drive belt. It is a "clicking" noise and the pulley appears to be a bit wobbly with some side to side play as it rotates. the clicking increases with engine rpm. Is this normal, or should I be highly concerned? I've never noticed this until I was adding some coolant this weekend and was in the engine bay area with the engine running. I admit to lacking knowledge in this area and I would like to remedy this problem, myself if possible. Is there a screw to tighten, or what? The exactly pulley I am referencing is the one nearest the bottom of the engine, kind of by the oil filter. I can think of no reason why it would have been worked on in any of the service work I have had done on the car, except for maybe the alternator, which was done under recall. Thanks everyone.

Are you talking about the Crank shaft pulley (the biggest pulley located all the way at the bottom of the serpentine belts) If so thats a bad bad thing to have it shaking side to side. It only has one big bolt in the middle of it, and i'd recommend you get a wrench in there and try and tighten it, if that doesn't do it, i'd take it to someone asap. I forgot to tighten my idler pulley (the smallest pulley, the one that goes over the belt) and my belt and pulley jumped off the car one day without me noticing and i never recovered them, that small pulley alone is like $75 from nissan plus $20 belt, i'd hate to see how much your crank shaft pulley cost....

Thanks, I'll take a gander in the near future. Good thing is the noise I was hearing before has subsided. BTW, I was refering to the big pulley. Maybe I should take a go at replacing my belt while I'm at it.
