I'm just wondering if that whole chip in the key thing really works.

Mine hasn't been stolen, so it must work!

What's the chip do? Activate the ignition? Couldn't someone turn the ignition to ON and push start the car or something?

mine got stolen but found the next day (all beat up of course) but it's a 98... if it's a professional stealing your car it doesn't matter if you have a chip or not....if they want it they'll steal it.

I believe it's fuel cut that's controlled. If you start the car with a cut key without a chip the car will start and stay on for about 3-4 seconds before it dies. That's why I don't believe a '99 ECU upgrade is possible from a '95-96 ECU that doesn't have any NVIS programmed into it.

Without the correct key, the car is not going to stay running. But Having an immobilizer system is no match for a tow truck. So to answer your question I bet a 99 has been stolen.

Flatbeds and towtrucks I have a helicopter and I can airlift your Max out of your driveway...

You know what I'm talking about. Lets not be ridiculous here. Has anyone ever actually had one stolen?

I think that biggest advantage of the transponder keys ( it s hardER to steal the car... not too many crooks have a flatbed truck).Other than that $ 100 for the keys is no fun. Also, if by mistake you insert a wrong key in, your ingition may get disabled even when you try to use the right key. It looks that there are advantages and disadvantages .
