Free Horsepower for mechanics.

whatup. OK some of you keep wanting to get more HP so ill tell you what i did the other day.

Replaced all small vacume hoses to EGR, EVAP, Selonids $3mod

Removed the intake Manifold (again) and Cleaned it w/ 2 cans of TB Cleaner. (only 2nd time ive done this on my 95) $5mod

Removed IVAC and thoroughly cleaned it with small cut toothbrush
(with TB cleaner) $.50

Removed TB and thoroughly cleaned it with small cut toothbrush
(Both Sides)(with TB cleaner) $.50

AFTER:

RPMS went up 1500 @idle, i knew theres been a small vacume leak
(BTW This also fixed my rough idle kinda after 6months of ecu codes, yeah i still get the code but it runs great)
Throttle Response is Instant.
Acceleration is Much Smoother.
Intake is Louder and Sounds Nicer.

Get ur craftsman sockets and go to town! Ull appreciate this more that a $money$ mod. Ur car appreciates it

do you need a new gasket for the IAC, if you take it off and clean it?

Good maintenance tips, but did you get a better outcome cause you fixed a vacum leak? No hate just wondering.

Look Next to the Throttle Body. Its right where the sensors and all those plugs are connected too. You cant miss it,. If anything break open that haynes manual.

You can do it!

i must disagree when u say pointless.those carbon deposits that you scrape off on the opening of the manifold and the TB are constricting the freeflowing air.plus,it would be a good time to clean the EGR after you take off the intake manifold.you wouldnt believe how much carbon you can take off from that little hole.and yeah, IACV and TB shouldnt be that bad.

Am I reading this right that your idle is 1500rpms now? That's not good. It should be around 600rpms with a warm engine and manual tranny. 800rpms if you're an auto.

Wait till one of your back injectors go out, then clean the intake manifold. Then it will be worth it.

Anyone know what size tubing is required for the Max?? My 95 tubing is cracking all over the place from what looks to be dry rot, and I'd like to replace it all but I have no idea what size tubing I need to get, and should I get it on a roll or buy it in sections?

Its not pointless, or a waste of time, some of us (me included) just dont have/want to spend the time doing that.

I Guess, For me the Intake Manifold took like 45 mins to remove, 20 to clean good with 3 cans of ****, and about 1 Hour to Put back on in the Dark, everything went smooth with lights and things and beer.

So was my 2hrs and 6$ of effort worth better throttle response/ better gas mileage/ louder WOT well..........u decide

I feel the same way...it's pointless. That's not to say that cleaning these things won't help...obviously it may but it's sort of like brushing your teeth - ok...so you have to do it a lot more frequently but still, you would need to clean say the intake manifold among other things quite often in order to keep it constantly clean; hence giving you a never-ending smoothest smoothness in acceleration.

In the end, I just feel that the gains you get out of cleaning these parts are so minimal that it's basically not worth the time. But then again, like I said, it doesn't hurt so if you have the time and patience go ahead and do it!
