starting problem

Starting problem, chipped key problem???
This is a completely intermittant problem. Most of the time the car will just turn over and start normally. But every few days I turn the key and the engine just turns. Then it will start and die. Even if I give it gas it will start and then die. The more I keep trying to start it, the less it even starts. The only way to move my car when it does this is to put it in 1st and take off from the start. My MAF is good. All sensors are working correctly. Could this be a problem with the wrong chipped key?
Thanks.
Thanks.

get ur batter tested at autozone for free and have ur alternator tested too. check all ur vacume lines and make sure they are connected properly. the vacume lines are connected the resonator inbetween the maf and throttle body

I brought the car to nissan dealership today, they couldnt find anything wrong with it. They saud the reason I might be having the starting problem was because of the key and the anti-theft NVIS system on 99's. Has anyone had a problem with this? I didnt think my key was chipped. What does a chipped key look like? Cause mine looks like avery other key.

Check both your crank position sensors. They tend to collect fine metalic dust on the pick-up which makes the signal weak. There are 2 sensors, one is POS and one is REF. POS is most likely the cause of your hard starts. It's loacted under the car on the transmission bell housing twards the front. Remove it and clean the tip. The other sensor looks at a timing ring on your lower pully. Clean the tip of that off as well. If that doesn't cure your hard starts, change your engine coolant temp sensor.
If you can get your car to start by jumping it in first gear, then your immobilizer is reading your chipped key correctly.

a bad engine coolant temperature sensor will cause the problems you are describing. i'm talking from experience.
Oddly enough, the ECU did not report a code for this problem either. after changing the IACV, knock sensor, cleaning the throttle body and triple checking the wiring harness connections, it all boiled down to this.
hope this helps!
