??? tick tick tick ???

Recently my Max has had a slight ticking noise radiating from the engine. I am having a hard time locating the sound, and I'm pretty sure that it is not the water pump and positive it is not the belts. It seems to be coming from the area around the fuel injectors. I am having a little smoke coming out, but it smells like it's just burning rich from my fouled LH O2 sensor. I am just not sure if I have a DIY or something major. Any advice would be helpful.

Thanks

It just might be your injectors also. Take a screw driver put the tip on the injector and put your ear to the handle. You should be able to tell if the injectors or not.

Get a 30" long piece of fuel line or rubber hose. Stick one end of the hose in your ear. Then aim the other end at different parts of the engine to see if that's the source of the noise.

I've got that tick tick thing too....It sounds like it's prolly just a valve tap, lots of cars do that, I know my cherokee did...if you find out exactly what it is please post so that I will know too...if it's something major I'm gonna get it checked out....thanks

that whining noise that you are hearing is most likely coming from your alternator. It is usually a sign that it will have to be replaced soon.

I'd look into it being some type of timing chain tensioner problem. Do a search.

Your engine is code number VQ30DE from Nissan. The most powerful reliable nervous electrifying engine form it's generation and it's category. Well at least I like to believe that. Perhaps many members here do to.

Hey guys I just had a fuel injector flush performed at the dealership today .. and suddenly my car is ticking worse than ever.. sounds like the front three fuel injectors! Do I just need to wait till the cleaner burns out of the system? or do I have a problem?

Yes I know the feul injectors makes a ticking noise, another ticking noise may be your IACV. Try disconnecting the harness while the car is running and see if it stops. My IACV is currently possessed by a mythological beast and ticks even when the engine is not running.

You may want to check the IAC valve (Idle air control valve). Mine would tick while the engine was running and whille the key was set to ACC. You may want to remove the IAC and clean it. The valve may be sticking a bit.

my bad engine makes several ticking sounds...one is normal, not sure what causes it but you hear it after turning the engine off as it cools down....the other are the lifters and the timing chain tensioners....gettting a new engine!!!

CEL diagnostic trouble code 1946 is defined as "IACV ticking too loud" if you pull this code, your engine must be replaced immediately.
