Has anyone tried putting hyper white bulbs behind their gauges?

Has anyone tried putting hyper white bulbs behind their gauges?

I'm just wondering if anyone has tried installing hyper white bulbs behind their speedomiter and tachomiter. I have a 98 I30, and I dont particularly like the way those gauges light up at night. I love the way the maxima SE gauge cluster looks like, the problem is they dont make indiglows that look the same way. Anyway i'm wondering if anyone has tried swapping the bulbs, and how it ended up looking

the bulbs behind the instr. cluster are tiny and somewhat difficult to find...i'd think it'd be tougher to find them in hyper-white or colors (which was what i was looking for before getting indiglos).

easy just get some 194 bulbs and pull the guages and put in the new bulbs. i did this mod in a matter of 15 minutes including pulling the guages.

Nice write-up! But you technically do not need to go through steps 1 and 2. The trim around the gauges is flexible enough to just pull out. But it takes some pull'n. In your case, it's a lil safer. Especially if you'be never done it before. But I have messed around with mine a dozen times and it seems fine. But to each their own. Regardless, great write-up.

The 98-99 Maxima clusters do not use 194 wedge bulbs, they use a much smaller type bulb. However, I decided to rig mine up a little differently to light up my needles a little brighter (I have reverse indiglos so that lighting is taken care of) What I did was I removed the bulbs and sockets from the gauge cluster and used 4 Polarg hyperwhites. I bent the contacts on the bulb out and soldered them to the copper ring around the opening for the bulb on the cluster with the hyperwhite sitting inside the cluster. They work fine and light up the needles nice and bright

I'm sick when it comes to soldering/figuring stuff out!

i was thinking the same thing. i looked at the page and was like i dont remmebr those lights being so big. i was like damn why did i go through the firment issues of a 98 se reverse indiglo guages for 4 freakin bulbs that would have taken 10 minutes.

LEDs dont really throw the light out enough to light up the entire cluster

Get some installed? You're going to pay someone to install bulbs? I sure hope not...

194's are too big!!!

First of all,I don't know where you found 194 bulbs that are narrow enough to fit throught the holes in the gauge cluster. Second, where did you find 194's that are have a narrow enough base to fit the bulb holders?
