gauge cluster bulbs behind 99

I was wondering if anyone had tried this LED gauge cluster bulbs from www.superbrightleds.com, they are the #74 and look as though they might work in the 99 gauge cluster....

Has anyone tried them yet?

i've never heard of anyone using led bulbs, but I have heard of people using hyper whites in different colors. I'm thinking about doing that to my 98 I30, but if you try the leds let us know how they end up looking.
Heres a link for a write up on replacing the bulbs

Yes, these will work but buy the socket and bulb combo. The 74 bulb will not ft in the socket that we have, but the socket they send does screw in securely into the hole. I used these for my custom turn signal set up in my gauge cluster. Just take out the stock socket and twist in the one you bought. Beware though that these LEDs do not dispurse light to the sides very well, especially the 74 bulb which is so small. Youll end up with horrible hot spots and a lot of dim area.

thanks for the pic tony.... I was thinking though.. what if i were to sand the top of the LED flat to disperse light, i have done this before and it seemed to turn out pretty good OR, i could order extra LED's and replace the ones in the socket w/ ones that have a wider angle.

how does that sound?

Sounds ok, but youre still going to get dim/hot spots. The LEDs, even if sanded or wide angle, will not put out enough light to give you a consistent bright appearance. That's one of the downfalls of LEDs. They are perfect for areas with small areas to bit lit.

You could buy the 6-LED wedge bulbs on www.superbrightleds.com and just solder them into the hole, rather than using the socket. ny96max just put the 6-LED bulbs in his cluster and there are hardly any hot spots and the lighting is nice and bright. Go ahead and try that, the bulbs are cheap and the soldering is easy
