The casing doesn't come off. There is a twist in socket for a wedge bulb on the bottom of the casing....

If you get 5mm LEDs, you might have to enlarge the hole a bit. 3mm LEDs will fit perfectly.
And older 4th gens have different types of LEDs, so us with older 4th gens are more fortunate.

If you're doing your window switches:
The original LED (green) is 3mm. If you install 3mm, it will be a simple soldering project. If you use 5mm, you will have to enlarge the hole to allow the 5mm to fit. I used a 5mm and didn't have any problems.
I just used a medium-power soldering iron from Radioshack and some lead-free solder. It did the job.
(One of the LEDs burned out after 1 year, I have to re-do that one)

I used the Radioshack one, check out my homepage, I listed the LED I used. A lot of orgers used the same LED.
It's a bit pricey (will run you > $10) but you could find a deal elsewhere and just get a similar spec LED.

When he says" voltage steppin" he means using resistors to step down the voltage to run the LEDs safely. If you are replacing a stock green LED (windown switches and a few climate control) then you dont need a resistor but if you are replacing an incadescent bulb, youll need a resistor for it to work on the 12v supplied.

I finished the project tonight and took some pics but they did not come out good and do not show just how gorgeous the project turned out. Once I take some perfect pics I'll post them right away.
